My Favorite Afternoon Tea Spot: A Taste of Britain (Wayne, PA)
There is one place that got me absolutely ADDICTED to afternoon tea and that’s A Taste of Britain in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Through the years, I have had their daily afternoon tea, their Valentine’s Day tea, their annual Christmas Tea, their Mother’s Day tea, The Queen’s Jubilee Tea, The Coronation Tea, their tea to go and so much more! The NICEST people work and own this tea house. It is not a chain. It’s a small business run by the loveliest people.
A Little Bit of History: From their website, the founder of A Taste of Britain was Marie Hope, who opened A Taste of Britain in their original location in Devon, PA in 1991 (which later would move just a mile away to their current location in Wayne). In 2012, Debbie Heth bought A Taste of Britain and Edward Pierce joined as her partner just in 2017. They are the current owners of A Taste of Britain.
A Taste of Britain is known for their Full Afternoon Tea but their menu also includes soup, salads, sandwiches, and some English specialties. Their storefront has also recently expanded to include a shop with speciality items.
The Experience: The daily afternoon tea has the traditional three tiers with the bottom tier consisting of eight tea sandwiches, which are usually a mix of four of the following flavors: chicken salad, cheese and chutney, tuna salad, turkey and cranberry, egg salad, curry chicken, or cucumber sandwiches. My favorite is their chicken salad. The middle tier is a scone of your choice. A Taste of Britain has HUGE SCONES and a variety of flavors to choose from. They also always have a special scone of the month with a unique flavor. The top tier is a variety of four mini desserts.
For special event days, they mix up the savory bites from things other than tea sandwiches. Through my experiences I have had frittatas, mini soups, tartines, crepes, and more.
This is not apart of their afternoon tea experience, BUT I would highly recommend getting their sausage rolls as an appetizer! They are delicious.
The service at A Taste of Britain has always been wonderful. They really have the kindest people working here and creatively thinking up new events to elevate the experience. This year they are introducing their first Halloween Tea (which I unfortunately will not be able to attend!) But they are continually innovating and coming up with new events to celebrate. You can stay up to date with their latest events here.
As of Today: This is one of the most reasonably priced tea houses i’ve attended. Their teas are currently $36pp. You can check out the latest menu here.
My Rating: 5/5 Teacups! Whenever I am available I will always head this way either for their daily specials or special events. Stay tuned for a post on their annual Christmas tea!
